The start of hockey season is within weeks, preseason games are actually set to begin this month and the excitement is bringing us all together to prepare for our favorite sport of the year. As we prepare for the season, I wanted to share a very exciting program that the Detroit Red Wings hockey club has hosted at their home games for many years. This program is the Student Rush Program, and with the push of a button to call the box office you may be able to buy your next ticket to a Wings game.
This program was created for college students, the Student Rush Program allows students to attend hockey games at a discounted price. But there is a catch, they only sell single seat tickets. Therefore if you plan on going with a lot of people, you will more than likely be sitting all over the arena and spread out from one another. Of course, this is not necessarily a terrible thing. There is not a terrible seat in the Joe Louis Arena, but not being able to sit next to friends may cause people to not take advantage of this program.
To sign up for Student Rush tickets all you do is text ‘RUSH’ to 217-32. This number catches the user who sent the message and adds them to a list that later receives messages about tickets. The receiver will see a message that tells them the day of the game, who the Wings plays against, the time of the game, the date, and how much tickets are selling for. If the game is a 7pm or 7:30pm game, the texts are usually received around 10am and earlier if the Wings play in the afternoon. The texts provides 2 options for the ticket buyer, upper or lower bowl seating and seat/section number are provided by the ticket agent when students call inquiring about purchasing them. Here is an example of what you may see on the Detroit Red Wings twitter account.
This photo above does not show ticket prices for every home game that the Student Rush Program is involved in. Ticket prices may vary based on the opponent against the Wings. Prices also do not include taxes. This program will only sell tickets for home games.
Not only do students save a lot on tickets, but also will receive texts for special offers throughout the season. Such as Frozen 4 tickets, when preseason and regular season tickets go on sale to the public, as well as events that take place at the Joe Louis Arena. The program, in my mind was designed to allow the Joe Louis Arena to continue the reputation of consecutive home game sell outs. Still, it is a very attractive program for students at any college or university to take advantage of, especially because it is the last season the Detroit Red Wings will be playing at the Joe Louis Arena. There is no certainty that this program will continue when the team begins their season at the Little Caesars Arena for the 2017 season, but I certainly hope that there will be a continuous program that goes with the new arena.
