As the season nears, the rosters begin to shrink around the NHL. Today the Red Wings continue to trim their roster as they place five players on waivers. Players who hit waivers have 24 hours to be claimed by other NHL teams.
Jensen appears to be the odd man out in the three player defenseman race between Xavier Ouellet and Ryan Sproul. I don’t see Jensen being claimed through the 24 hour period. Tangradi, Lashoff, and Callahan will go through waivers once again and will most likely clear waivers. One player every Red Wings fan will keep an eye on is Martin Frk. This will be the first time that Frk is waiver eligible. Many are high on Martin Frk and had a pretty impressive showing during the pre-season. He is the likely out of the five to be claimed by another team. There are questions to why Frk didn’t make the team, but with the amount of depth at Forward, it was given that Detroit will place a talented player on waivers. Best case for the Red Wings is Frk clearing waivers and starting the season in Grand Rapids. Best/worst part about the waiver wire is that a team has to intend on keeping a waived player on their 23 man roster. The odds of that happening at this point isn’t that good, however it’s still possible.
NHL teams have until Tuesday at 5 PM ET to trim their roster down to 23 players.
