Detroit Red Wings (0-1) Preview: Well, that first game was a roller coaster of emotion. The first period was amazing, but afterwards it just was demoralizing to wait all summer long to see the same old Wings MO. Look for the lines to have already been shaken up by Blashill, inserting AA on the first line with Frans and Z while Abby is bumped down to the fourth line leaving Ott in the press box for this one. Tatar and Nyquist need to show up and start carrying some offensive load if the team wants to be competitive. The Red Wings need to actually show up for this one and play a full 60 minute game. If they don’t show up, we are looking at a 0-2 start and more importantly 2 losses to division opponents who and let’s be honest with ourselves, are teams looking to mark in the playoffs come spring. Vanek, Nielsen, and Green lead the team in points with 2 apiece.

Florida Panthers (1-0) Outlook: This Florida team is not the same one of years passed. Management has turned this team around with successful drafting and signing of free agents. Last year the team got a taste of playoff hockey and even though they were bounced in the first round, this team is up and coming. In the off-season they re-signed defenseman cornerstone Aaron Ekblad and signed free agent Jason Demers to only add to the blue line. Even though right now, Jonathan Huberdeau and Nick Bjugstad are out with injuries, they still have the half-man half-cyborg Jaromir Jagr to lead the young kids. Coached by a former Red Wings player Gerard Gallant has turned the once was lowly Panthers into an upcoming team built to surprise some and return the playoffs this year.
