Preview: Detroit Red Wings vs. Nashville Predators (10/21/2016)

After a taking a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers, the Red Wings face off against the Nashville Predators tonight to make their record 3-2. The Predators are 1-2 to start the season off after losing to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday 2-1.

The Predators come into Hockeytown tonight, to look for their second victory of the season after the defeat the the Stars. During their last game, captain forward Mike Fisher scored the lone goal for his team during the second period. Goaltender Pekka Rinne has a total of 35 saves in his last game. Will the Wings be able to slide a couple past the 6’5” goalie tonight?  The key players to look out for this series are Ryan Johansen leads the team with four points and Fisher has two goals which are both powerplay goals. Defensemen Roman Josi and P.K. Subban who have a combined total points of four and are a minus four going into this match which can be an advantage for the Wings tonight.

On Wednesday, Jimmy Howard played his first game of the season and held the team together by having an outstanding game of 32 saves and only giving up one goal. Forward Thomas Vanek scored his third goal for the season during the Rangers as well as forward Drew Miller who scored not only his first goal of the season, but also the game winning goal as well. Tonight in the starting line-up, forward Andreas Athanasiou will sit this game out as forward Steve Ott looks to play his second game of the season as a Red Wings and his first regular season game at the Joe. Another improvement in the line-up is defenseman Ryan Sproul makes his first debut this season while defenseman Alexei Marchenko will sit this game out. With the changing of the defense line hopefully this will step their game up and help starting goaltender Petr Mrazek this time around.
