The Griffins improved their record to 4-1 as they knocked off the Cleveland Monsters 3-2.
This game marked the first meeting between the two teams since Cleveland beat Griffins in the Calder Cup playoffs last season.
Both teams were unable to get anything going offensively in the first period. The score after 20 minutes of play was 0-0.
Ben Street got the scoring started in the 2nd period giving the Griffins a 1-0 advantage. This was Streets 1st goal in a Griffins uniform.
Grand Rapids made it 2-0 when Tyler Bertuzzi netted his first goal of the season. Eric Tangradi put a shot on net that was fought off by Monsters goalie Anton Forsberg, but Bertuzzi came in alone on the right side and scored on the rebound.
The Griffins added another when defenseman Robbie Russo scored hit first on the year. Tyler Bertuzzi assisted on the play making the score 3-0 Griffins.
The shutout bid for Jared Coreau was spoiled when Broadhurst scored on a feed from Aaron Palushaj. Cleveland would then cut it to one with just under a minute to go as Cleveland pulled Forsberg for an extra attacker. But the Griffins were able to fend off another rush by the Monsters to win 3-2.
Jared Coreau was outstanding again stopping 37 of 39 shots.
The Griffins will travel to Charlotte next weekend to take on the Checkers next weekend.
