The Griffins suffered their second loss on the season by falling to the Charlotte Checkers, 4-2.
Borkowski scored his first goal as a Griffin to give the Griffins an early 1-0 lead. Colin Campbell fed a pass from behind the net to Borkowski and he fired in a slap-shot for the score.
Anthony Mantha tacked on his 7th goal of the season just about a minute and a half later. He grabbed a loose puck near the blue line and picked up speed down the wing and fired in a wrist shot for a 2-0 Griffins advantage.
The Checkers finally got on the board when Kegan Lowe got the puck past Jared Coreau, cutting the Griffins lead in half.
Charlotte evened the score when Sergey Tolchinsky scored for the Checkers. Andrew Miller’s pass from the slot found Andrew Poturalski at the left circle, who quickly sent a pass to Tolchinsky at the bottom of the right circle for a shot that beat Coreau into the open net.
Brook McGinn put the Checkers in front for good, 3-2, on a power play goal.
The Griffins had a chance to even the score when the Checkers were given an interference penalty. They pulled Jared Coreau to have the 6 on 4 advantage but were unable to capitalize. The Checkers put the game away when McGinn added an empty net goal to give the Checkers a 4-2 lead.
The Griffins will face the Checkers this evening wrapping up the weekend series. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.
