The Griffins will wrap up their four game homestand this evening when they host the Rockford IceHogs for the second time this season. Rockford handed the Griffins their first loss of the season back on October 21 by score of 2-1.
The Griffins beat the Cleveland Monsters on Wednesday 5-4 in a shootout. The Griffins were down 3-1 early but fought back to take the lead before the Monsters tied it essentially sending the game into overtime. There were a combined 13 shots on goal during the 5 minute period but nobody was able to find the back of the net. The Griffins won in the shootout by scoring 2 goals to the Monsters 1.
The IceHogs come into Grand Rapids winless in their last 5 games. They stand at 4-6-1 on the season.
The Griffins will be without Anthony Mantha for tonight’s game after he was called up by the Red Wings earlier today. The move came after Andreas Athanasiou went down with a lower body injury during the Red Wings 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Athanasiou is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. That means rookie Dylan Sadowy will be back in the lineup tonight for the Griffins. Jared Coreau will be getting the nod in goal. Coreau has started 10 of the Griffins 11 games this season.
