2016 World Junior A Challenge: The Andrei Svechnikov Show

All About Andrei

It’s Andrei Svechnikov’s world, and we’re just living in it. The World Junior A Challenge kicked off Sunday, December 11th in Bonnyville, Alberta. I’ve watched a few games of the tournament and have specifically kept an eye on 2018 NHL Draft eligible Andrei Svechnikov. Andrei plays for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. You can check his stats out here: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=328556.  Svechnikov is the younger brother of Red Wings prospect, Evgeny.

Svechnikov is considered the early favorite to go first overall in the 2018 NHL Draft and it’s easy to see why. Svechnikov is a power-forward and he’s just a dominant force out there on the ice. On quite a few goals of his, you’re just left wondering how he put the puck in the net.   He’s had no issues transitioning his game to North America and has 24 points in 17 games for Muskegon. Svechnikov just set the record for goals in the World Junior A Challenge with eight in four games. Powered by a performance of three goals and one assist from Svechnikov, Russia won bronze at the World Junior A Challenge.  While being incredibly gifted offensively, Andrei is responsible defensively too.  I’ll just let the highlights speak for themselves.

Here’s a shootout winner for Muskegon of the USHL:
