Coming off of a sloppy performance during Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to the Iowa Wild, the Griffins will look to get back into the win column tonight when they host the San Jose Barracuda, affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.
Tonight’s game marks the one and only time that San Jose will make the trip to Grand Rapids during the regular season. Grand Rapids will travel to San Jose on Saturday March 11.
San Jose comes into the game ranking in the top five in goals for and goals against. They have the sixth best record in the AHL and rank in the top six in power play efficiency and penalty kill. They also boast three first round draft picks, all three have scored their first NHL goals earlier this season.
The Griffins scored once again on the power play during their loss to Iowa. That marks the 11th consecutive game they have scored on the man advantage. They had a power play scoring run of 13 straight contests earlier this season.
Matt Lorito and Mitch Callahan will be back in the lineup this evening for the Griffins while Tyler Bertuzzi will miss his second straight game with an illness.
Cal Heeter will be in net tonight for Grand Rapids. In eight starts this season, Heeter has a record of 7-1 with a 1.87 goals against average and a .94 save percentage.
Both Heeter and Pasquale have stepped up tremendously while Jared Coreau fills the void left by injured Jimmy Howard. Coreau is 5-1-3 while wearing a Red Wing uniform.
The Griffins remain at the top of the standings in the Western Conference at 27-11-1-2 while San Jose has a record of 20-11-1-3.
