Griffins Game Day Preview

The Iowa Wild are no doubt a team on the rise. With their 4-2 victory over the Griffins last night, it was only the 6th time in 28 games the Wild were able to defeat Grand Rapids.

Tonight the Griffins will look to take the rubber match of a two game weekend series.

Last night it appeared Grand Rapids may have had another comeback brewing. But Iowa was able to score two unanswered goals after the Griffins tied the game at two.

The Griffins showed a rare lack of discipline in the final period taking three straight penalties. This led to Alex Tuch scoring the game winning power play goal. Former Griffin Teemu Pulkkinen put the game out of reach with an empty net goal with :43 seconds remaining in the final period.

The Griffins suffered their third loss in their previous 11 games away from home while Iowa won only their 10th home game pushing their home record to 10-16.

Iowa sits in the fourth and final playoff spot in the Central Division. The Griffins remain at the top of the standings in the Western Conference at 30-14-1-2.

Recently recalled Cal Heeter will get the start in goal for the Griffins. Heeter was recalled a couple of days ago after he was sent to the Toledo Walleye. Jimmy Howard has been recalled by the Detroit Red Wings prompting the recall of Heeter.

The Griffins will feature the same lines as they did last night.

Catch the game on WOOO Radio or ahllive.com. The puck will drop just after 8 p.m. tonight.
