The Griffins will begin the first of seven straight road games tonight when they face-off with the Cleveland Monsters.
Grand Rapids split a weekend series with the Milwaukee Admirals. The Griffins were sluggish and sloppy in their 5-3 loss on Friday night but responded well on Saturday dominating their division rival, 6-2.
During the win on Saturday, the Griffins got three-point games from Martin Frk and Matt Lorito. Jared Coreau, who was recalled by Detroit yesterday along with Drew Miller, stopped 39 of 41 shots.
With the win Saturday, Grand Rapids improved their record to 35-15-1-2 on the season.
The Griffins have played well on the road this season winning 8 of their previous 11 games away from the Van Andel Arena.
The Monsters are not in a good position to try for a championship repeat this season. If they miss out on the playoffs, they would be the fifth team in the past 16 years to not make the playoffs the year after winning the Calder Cup.
Currently the Monsters stand at 24-23-3-4 and sit five points behind the Iowa Wild for the fourth playoff spot in the Central Division.
Speaking of the Iowa Wild, former Griffins sniper and now former Wild Forward Teemu Pulkkinen was traded to the Arizona Coyotes yesterday. Minnesota placed him on waivers but nobody decided to take a chance on him.
Tomas Nosek will be out of the lineup tonight after suffering a concussion during the game on Saturday. He is hoping to return to practice this weekend when the Griffins travel to Texas.
Dylan Sadowy, Mike Borkowski, and Cal Heeter were all recalled from the Toledo Walleye when Coreau and Miller were recalled by Detroit.
Eddie Pasquale will be in net for the Griffins tonight. He played well in his previous game against the San Antonio Rampage recording a shutout.
