Howard perfect, Griffins beat Rampage 3-0

In his final rehab start with the Griffins, Jimmy Howard stopped all 21 shots he faced to help the Griffins defeat the San Antonio Rampage 3-0 on Tuesday night.

With the victory over the Rampage, the Griffins have won all four games during the regular season, outscoring San Antonio 18-3 in the process.

The opening period featured no scoring. But the Griffins came out and scored three goals in the middle frame. Colin Campbell got the visiting Griffins on the board just over one minute into the period. Forward Ben Street whiffed on a shot but the puck found its way back to an open Campbell who buried the shot just inside the right post.

Grand Rapids extended the lead on a delayed penalty when rookie Kyle Criscuolo entered the offensive zone and the passed the puck to defenseman Brian Lashoff who fired a shot from the right point that deflected off of the stick of Matt Lorito. The goal was Loritos 19th of the season which is second behind only Martin Frk for the team lead.

Criscuolo was again involved in a scoring play and this time he would get the goal. Lorito attempted to send a pass up the ice that deflected off of a Rampage defender and the puck bounced right to a waiting Criscuolo who hit the back of the net for his 14th goal of the season.

The loss for San Antonio extends their losing streak to 12 consecutive games.

The Griffins had an unsuccessful evening on the power play finishing 0-for-5  while the Rampage finished 0-for-4.
