For the final time this season, the Grand Rapids Griffins will welcome in their division rival Rockford IceHogs. Tonight’s game marks the beginning of a busy three games in three days weekend. The Griffins will be in Rockford tomorrow night and the make the trip to Milwaukee for a Sunday showdown with the Admirals.
This is the second straight weekend the Griffins will play three in three. The Griffins are 5-2 against the IceHogs so far this season. Rockford is experiencing a rather difficult year and is expected to miss the playoffs while the Griffins are going to make it to the postseason for the fifth consecutive season.
Earlier in the week, the Red Wings reassigned a pair of prospects to the Griffins in defenseman Filip Hronek and forward Givani Smith. Hronek is expected to make his Griffins debut tonight. He will be the linemate of veteran Brian Lashoff.
Forward Tomas Nosek remains with the Detroit Red Wings. Ben Street is also back with the Griffins after being called up for emergency purposes.
Jared Coreau and his 2.29 goals against average will get the nod in goal tonight.
Mitch Callahan will also be back in the lineup tonight for the first time in almost a month. His last game with the Griffins was on February 28.
The Griffins come into the game tonight with a record of 40-18-1-4 while the IceHogs enter in at 22-31-9-3 which marks the worst record in the American Hockey League. Rockford is also dead last in terms of their road record winning only eight of the 32 games they have played away from home.
