The Griffins have seven games remaining in the regular season before they gear up for a deep playoff run. Tonight they are in Winnipeg to take on the Manitoba Moose for the first of back to back games against the last place team in the Central Division.
The Griffins are looking to end their season high three game losing streak. Keep in mind Eric Tangradi, Matt Lorito, Ben Street, Robbie Russo, and Tomas Nosek have been absent from the Griffins lineup over the previous few games. Russo, Street, and Nosek remain with the Red Wings on recall while Tangradi and Lorito have been out with minor injuries. Tyler Bertuzzi has also been held out of the previous two games due to injury.
While battling injuries and recalls, the Griffins have been trying to hang out to their division lead and are battling for the top spot in the Western Conference. As the standings sit today the Griffins, at 43-21-1-4, are still a top on the Central Division despite having one less point than the Chicago Wolves.
With a win tonight, the Griffins can take back the points lead in the division due to the Wolves having the night off from action. It appears the final playoff spot in the Central Division might come down to the Charlotte Checkers and the defending Calder Cup Champion Cleveland Monsters. Since the loss of Teemu Pulkkinen, the Iowa Wild have slowly faded out of playoff contention.
Matt Lorito will make his way back into the lineup tonight while Eric Tangradi and Tyler Bertuzzi will not be suiting up due to their injuries. Evgeny Svechnikov will also be out of the lineup due to his recall to the Detroit Red Wings.
Last night, Svechnikov scored the game winner in the shootout to help the Red Wings defeat the Ottawa Senators, 5-4. He will be in the lineup for Detroit in the rematch in Ottawa.
Another Red Wings prospect will be making his professional debut tonight. Forward Axel Holmstrom will be in the Griffins lineup adding to the trio of prospects who have made their pro debuts over the previous couple of weeks.
Zach Nastasiuk has been recalled and will be in the Griffins lineup. Jared Coreau will be in net for the Grand Rapids.
The game is set for an 8 p.m. puck drop. You can listen live on WOOD Radio or tune in on ahllive.com.
