The puck will drop on the Western Conference Finals tonight when the Grand Rapids Griffins begin their series with the San Jose Barracuda for a berth in the Calder Cup Final.
In two games this season, San Jose held the advantage winning both contests, one by way of a 1-0 shootout.
Neither team has played since last Saturday and this will be only the second game for the Griffins in 12 days. The Griffins have been dealing with some bumps and bruises so the time off was welcomed.
The Griffins are coming off of a five game series win against the Chicago Wolves. Likewise, San Jose eliminated the San Diego Gulls in five games winning four straight after dropping the first game at home.
Jared Coreau will be starting for the Griffins. He is 7-1 in the playoffs with a 2.64 goals against average. The Griffins are at full strength and the Barracuda have a couple of players that may be held out of the lineup due to injuries.
We are now at a point in the postseason where coaches are not too thrilled to share lineup information with the public.
Tyler Bertuzzi comes into the game continuing his playoff brilliance. In eight games this postseason he currently leads the Griffins in points with 10 (5-5-10). That is also good enough for third in the AHL. Grand Rapids also has three other players averaging at least a point a game. Rookie Evgeny Svhecnikov has nine points while Matt Lorito and Tomas Nosek each have eight points.
