Defenseman and former Griffins captain Nathan Paetsch has agreed to a one year deal with the Rochester Americans of the AHL.
This will be the third stint Paetsch has had with the Amerks. He returns after spending five seasons and winning two Calder Cups with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The defenseman had 18 points last season (1-17-18) while playing in 73 games. He added seven points (2-5-7) in the playoffs helping the Griffins win the Calder Cup.
Paetsch took over as the captain just one season after the team chose not to bring back Jeff Hoggan. Paetsch is expected to provide a veteran presence in the Amerks locker room. There is no word on who will replace Paetsch as captain.
The Griffins will open up their season on October 6th when they host the Manitoba Moose. Grand Rapids will also raise their Calder Cup Championship banner.
