It’s been a semi rough week for Wings fans and the Wings in general. What started as a dominating performance and win over Calgary on home ice back on November 15th, followed up by a win against Buffalo, it gave the team and Hockeytown in general, a little pep in their step. The thoughts and opinions from other sports writers and broadcasters starting making airwaves – Detroit could have a legit hockey team this year.
Fast forward to the November 22nd game against the Edmonton Oilers. The Wings looked strong in the first period, the score kept going back and forth and the Wings headed to the second period with a 2-2 tie. Sadly, two goals were all the Wings could muster up that game and Edmonton had a field day the rest of the game. The final of that game was 6-2.
On Friday November 24th, the Wings headed to Madison Square Garden to play the Rangers. It was a hard fought game, with the first goal of the game coming in the third period courtesy of Tomas Tatar. A few minutes after Tatar Tots scored, the Rangers tied it up and it was crucial the Wings make it to overtime to get the point and hopefully walk away with the extra one. The Wings made it to overtime, but as quickly as it started it was over with Zuccarello scoring .37 seconds into OT.
The following night on November 25th, the Wings were looking to redeem themselves on home ice against a surprisingly decent New Jersey Devils team. Once again, it was a hard fought game. The Wings were playing catch up as the Devils took a 2-1 lead in the first period. The second period saw no scoring, but the third period was very interesting.
The Devils went up 3-1 and the wind seemed to be knocked out of the Wings and the fans, but thanks to Anthony Mantha, who scored shortly after the Devils third goal, a chance at a second wind was born. Around the eight minute mark, David Booth scored his second goal of the night and making the game 3-3. Again, we all were just hoping to make it to overtime to get a point, and optimistic we could walk away with two. Sadly, the Wings couldn’t grab that second point and lost in overtime with the final score being 4-3 New Jersey.
Even though the Wings have lost three straight games, they’ve gotten a point in two out of the three.
The Wings currently have 25 points and sit in third place in the Atlantic Division.
Witkowski is still serving his ten game suspension. He was suspended following the airing of grievances on the ice towards the end of the game against Calgary on November 15th.
Frk has been out the last six games due to a groin issue.
Blashill said that they expect Frk to play this coming weekend.
Daley left the Rangers game in the first period after he took a funky hit around center ice. It turned out that he tweaked his neck, nothing of major concern but he will not be playing against the Kings on November 28th.
