The Grand Rapids Griffins have agreed to one-year contracts with forwards Turner Elson and Dominik Shine.
Elson collected 21 points last season (9-12-21) in his first season with Grand Rapids. He battled injuries for part of the season, but was effective playing in 57 games. In five postseason games, he added two goals.
The 25-year old made his pro debut in 2012 with the Abbotsford Heat. He had also spent time with the San Antonio Rampage, Adirondack, and Stockton. Elson has appeared in 232 career AHL games scoring 87 points (43-44-87). He made his NHL Debut in 2016 for the Calgary Flames.
Elson was a Kelly Cup Champion during the 2014 season with the ECHL’s Alaska Aces.
Dominik Shine appeared in his first full pro season for Grand Rapids during the 2017-2018 season. He collected 16 points (8-8-16) in 58 games and had 54 PIM. He also appeared in all five postseason matches for the Griffins.
Shine made his pro debut during the 2016-2017 season registering three assists in eight games.
Before Shine went pro, he spent four years with Northern Michigan where he scored 97 points (48-49-97) in 131 contests and was a two-time alternate captain. The Michigan native scored 20 goals during his senior season and was named to the All-WCHA Third team.
The Griffins are led by first-year head coach, Ben Simon. The team will open their home slate on Friday, October 12. The full schedule will be released later this summer and tickets will go on sale in September.
