The Griffins continued making moves this off-season by re-signing captain Matt Ford for two more seasons.
Ford was named Captain before the start of the 2017-2018 season. He was an assistant captain during their 2017 Calder Cup Championship run. Ford had 38 points last season (22-16-38) while playing in 72 games. He was fourth on the team in goals and was sixth in points. He had 12 power-play goals during the season which was good for a fifth place tie in the AHL.
Ford was a Chicago Blackhawks draft pick in 2004. He has played in 603 career AHL games with Hartford, Lake Erie, Hershey, Adirondack, Springfield, Oklahoma City, Bakersfield, and Grand Rapids. Ford had not made an NHL appearance.
Ford played his collegiate hockey at University of Wisconsin from 2004-2008. He was a member of the 2006 National Championship team. He was a teammate of Ben Street at Wisconsin.
During his two seasons with the Griffins, Ford has scored 73 points (36-37-73) in 123 games.
