Vanek and the Red Wings Agree on a Deal

Welcome back to Detroit Thomas Vanek! The club and Vanek verbally agree on a one year deal around 3 million. This acquisition will unfortunately bounce Martin Frk out of the lineup.

Vanek who’s is 34 years old played for the Canucks and Blue Jackets last season. He was dealt at the deadline last year to help Columbus in the playoffs. The Left Wing had a great season last year totaling 24 goals and 56 points. This deal adds a much needed scorer to the offense, and if the Wings aren’t in position for the postseason he can be used as a trade chip.

Many people are upset because now a young player like Evgeny Svechnikov now will likely take the back seat because of the acquisition. Svechnikov played 14 games last year with the Wings and scored two goals. In 2016 he tallied 20 goals and 51 points with the Grand Rapid Griffins. Due to the struggles in his 14 games it’s beneficial for him to play in Grand Rapids for another season.
