Red Wings announce 2018 Prospect roster

The Red Wings roster is up for the 2018 Prospect tournament. The announcement came via the Red Wings twitter account.

Both of Detroit’s 2018 first round picks in Forwards Filip Zadina and Joe Veleno will headline this years roster. Zadina impressed at the Red Wings prospects camp and will look to do the same in the tournament. last years first round pick Forward Michael Rasmussen is also on the roster following an impresses 2017-18 season with Tri-City in the WHL.

A couple of Griffins appear on the prospects tournament roster in Defenseman Vili Saarijarvi and Forward Axel Holmstrom. Holmstrom collected 26 points in 7 goals and 26 assist during his first season with the Griffins. Saarijarvi spent 10 games with the ECHL Toledo Walleye before being called up to the Grand Rapids Griffins where he collected 11 assist in 42 games with Detroit’s AHL affiliate.

A player to keep an eye on for the Red Wings is Defenseman and 2016 1st round pick Dennis Cholowski. The 6’1 defenseman could find himself in either Grand Rapids or in Detroit after collecting 66 points in the WHL last season. He was reassigned to the Griffins when the WHL season ended. Look for him to have an impact on the Red Wings this season.

Other noteable players on the Red Wings prospect roster include 2016 2nd round pick Givani Smith, Center Christoffer Ehn, Goaltender Patrik Rybar, and a couple of 2018 draft picks in Jared McIsaac and Alec Regula.

The 2018 NHL Prospect Tournament rakes place on September 7th-11th at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, Michigan. 8 teams will participate in the 4 day tournament which includes the Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, and St. Louis Blues. The teams will be broken up into two 4 division teams. Teams will play a round robin format with the top team in each division facing each other for the Matthew Wesut Memorial Cup on September 11th.

If you plan on attending the tournament tickets can be found exclusively on www.centreice.org/drwtickets or can be purchased at the arena on a first come first serve basis on the day of the event. General admission Tickets are $10 each day and are good for the whole day.
